CALERA, AL (WSFA) -
A Birmingham church van lost control and flipped on I-65 around 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The accident shut down northbound traffic near mile marker 228 at the Chilton County and Shelby County line in Calera.
All northbound lanes of I-65 have been reopened.
Calera fire officials say 6 passengers were taken to local hospitals. All injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Officials say the Birmingham church group was headed back from an event in Montgomery. The accident may have been the result of a tire blowout.
