A South Carolina man is facing charges after police say he assaulted a woman onboard an airplane over the weekend.

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report, officers were called to the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Saturday afternoon to the report of a fight onboard a flight.

According to the report, the airplane had been waiting to taxi to the runway when the fight broke out.

US Airways crew members contacted the tower and turned the plane back to the gate, US Airways confirmed to WBTV.

Police say a 22-year-old man, Blake Jones, from Little River, SC, assaulted a 53-year-old woman from Cleveland, Ohio.

He is facing charges of assault on a female by a male at least 18 years of age and resisting arrest.  He was released on a $2,000 bond.
