BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society has a new program they're launching to benefit adoptable dogs and their future owners.

Monday is the very first day members of the humane society are launching the Jog a Dog program.

Volunteers at the shelter can check out a dog and take them to a number of listed parks around the area including Railroad Park and Red Mountain Park.

Residents who want to take a dog out have to take a short volunteer class at the shelter.

The dogs even wear a cute little shirt that says, "Adopt Me."

"This gives [the dogs] the tremendous release. It makes them more adoptable. It's going to make them a better member of people's families when they come to adopt the animal and it just helps them with the visability in the community too," Karen Peterlin, GBHS Executive Director, said.

If you are interested in the program, please visit gbhs.org for more information.
