MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Less than eight hours after investigators with the Montgomery Police Department confirmed the city's 15th homicide of 2013, they identified the victim and announced an arrest in the case.
Detectives have charged 22-year-old Montgomery resident Christy Lawson with one count of murder in the death of a 19-year-old Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, Jarvas Terrell Baldwin was fatally shot in the driveway of a home in the 3800 block of Gaston Avenue in West Montgomery around 3 p.m.
Police and paramedics were called to the home where they found Baldwin suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
An initial investigation shows that the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving a group of several individuals, according to authorities. Lawson was subsequently identified as the suspect.
Lawson was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility where she is being held on a bond of $75,000.
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, visibly concerned with the city's homicide rate, came to the scene of the shooting where he urged anyone with information about suspicious activity in their neighborhood to call police.
