PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -
The Bass Pro Shops
Crappie Masters state tournament comes back for the 5th year. Boaters will
launch at the Gold Star Park in Wetumpka and crappie fish for 30 miles
downstream.
The tournament is a
two-day event with anglers expected from all over the southeast. The fishermen
will compete for thousands of dollars in prizes, and a chance to qualify for
the national tournament later this year. It's gotten to the point now Mayor Al
Kelley can't imagine springtime without the tournament.
"People ask me all
the time 'when is the crappie tournament coming back?' so we show them a good
time and good hospitality," said Kelley.
The weigh-ins will be at
the Mills Creek Sports complex. The tournament rules state that anglers are
allowed to weigh in a total of 14 fish, seven per day. The fish are typically
released back into the water after the weigh-ins.
Mayor Kelley says so far
70 boaters have signed up for the tournament which begins Friday, March 22.
