BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A small electrical fire damaged one building on the campus of St. Joseph's Academy Saturday afternoon.
The fire started in a committee room inside Mother Alice Hall around 1 pm, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department. Investigators believe it was caused by some type of electrical malfunction. Fire damage was limited to that room, BRFD spokesman Robert Combs said. He added that the rest of the building suffered smoke and heat damage.
St. Joseph's communications director Mindy Averitt tells 9News the building mainly houses offices, but that a handful of Theology classes would likely have to be relocated on Monday. Clean-up crews will be on site all weekend, Averitt said. She credited a quick response by BRFD for keeping the fire contained.
No one was in the building at the
time of the fire.
