OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -

A teen having trouble with his girlfriend is accused of stealing street signs to show her how much he cares.

Grant Lindquist, 18, of Oregon City, was one of three people arrested early Saturday morning in Happy Valley.

Police were called out to the 14000 block of Southeast Willet Drive at 3 a.m. after a report of someone placing a ladder over a gate and then three young men running through the neighborhood and driving off in a red Jeep Cherokee.

A few minutes later, officers stopped the car near the intersection of Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Timber Valley Drive.

As they approached the Jeep, police saw a stack of signs inside the rear cargo area of the car.

Lindquist initially told police he was out for a jog and his friends came to pick him up, according to investigators.

Lindquist then revealed he was having trouble with his girlfriend, police said, so he stole the signs as a way of showing her he loved her. Police said Lindquist and his friends picked out signs they thought she would like, along with some for themselves.

Police said their spree of sign thefts covered several cities. Signs taken included Love Street in Wilsonville, along with Tennis Street and Courtside in Wilsonville, Lee Drive in Oregon City, Grant Street in Canby and Lindquist Court and Cedar Street in Newberg.

Justin Peterson, 23, and Tyler Robinson, 18, both of Oregon City, were arrested, along with Lindquist.

They were taken to the Clackamas County Jail and each booked on the charge of theft. Police said they could face more charges as the investigation continues.

All three have since been released from jail and are set to be arraigned in court April 15.
