Protestors rally to protect Saturday mail delivery

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Concerned citizens rallied on Sunday to protect Saturday mail delivery.

Dozens gathered outside of the Main post Office on Dalton Avenue to demand that Congress deliver a better plan to strengthen the Postal Service in the future.

Protestors believe that the U.S. Postal Service's plan to end six-day service is an attack on the institution. They say that many Americans- especially small-business owners, senior citizens and rural residents- would suffer if the Postal Service ceased Saturday delivery.

Protestors argue that cutting Saturday mail would also delay important household and business transactions forcing customers to shift to high-cost competing services.

The U.S. Postal Service is currently the only universal communications network that reaches every address in America six days a week.

Established by the Constitution and using no taxpayer funding for its operations, protestors say the Postal Service is a vital public institution that Ohio cannot afford to see dismantled.
