The WSFA 12 sports team has learned Phil Cunningham will be introduced as Troy's new basketball coach Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trojan Arena.

Cunningham will take over for Don Maestri, who retired this month after 31 seasons and 500 victories.

Cunningham, a Kentucky native, spent the past season as an assistant at Western Kentucky.

Before gaining that Sun Belt experience, he spent the previous 12 years as an assistant at Mississippi State.

At MSU, Rivals ranked Cunningham as one of the top 25 assistants in the country.

Cunningham, who was registered at a Troy hotel Wednesday night, did not return a message left by the WSFA 12 sports team.

His introductory press conference is open to the public.

WSFA 12 news will be there and will have reaction from Cunningham Thursday on WSFA 12 News at 6 and 10.
