NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Belmont University is providing 25 full scholarships to students graduating from Metro Nashville high schools.

The Bridges to Belmont scholarships were announced Tuesday.

Belmont President Bob Fisher said often the biggest challenge to a student is simply the lack of opportunity. The scholarships are intended to reach graduating high school seniors who wouldn't otherwise be able to consider Belmont as a college option. Bridge students will live and work on campus the summer prior to enrollment while attending an intensive institute that will allow them to take full advantage of the opportunities the college environment will offer.

Metro Schools Director Jesse Register said the program will be a life-changer to those students selected for it.

The scholarships come with a full financial package to cover tuition, room, board and books.
