SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A man accused of killing his wife at their Scottsdale home eight months ago has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Judge Sherry Stephens sentenced Michael Jay Cohn on Friday in Maricopa County court.

Late last year, Cohn pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

He originally pleaded not guilty in the case in April 2013 and was facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Scottsdale police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark said officers went to the home at 16456 N. 103 Place, near Thompson Peak Parkway and Bell Road, about 11 a.m. on March 27, 2013 after Cohn called police and told them he strangled his wife with his bare hands.

When officers arrived, Cohn came out of the home and was arrested, Clark said.

Police found his wife, 60-year-old Linda Cohn, dead inside the home.

Police said no one else was home at the time.

Officers said they noticed blood on Michael Cohn's hands and scratches on his neck, and he asked for an attorney.

Neighbors of the couple told CBS 5 News they were stunned by the incident.
