HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) -

A Northern Kentucky University (NKU) athletics official has resigned, nearly two weeks after the termination of the school's athletic director.

Chrissy Soards, NKU's Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services, has resigned effective Sunday. Soards could not be reached by phone Friday. According to the university's website, Soards was responsible for the oversight of all aspects of NCAA compliance and she had been at the university for six years.

Right now the university will not comment on its own internal investigation or whether this resignation is in any way tied to the Athletic Director's termination.

Soards resignation comes after Athletic Director Scott Eaton was terminated on March 16th, as noted in a letter sent by President Geoffrey Mearns.

In the letter, Mearns states:

"Moreover, during the initial phase of the University's investigation of your conduct, you failed to provide the University with truthful and complete information, as required by University policy."

In a news conference on March 18th regarding Eaton's termination, President Mearns would not deny the involvement of students, only that no student athletes were involved. He maintained here was no evidence of financial misconduct, no criminal charges are expected and insists there are no concerns about the school's NCAA or conference compliance.

In an email requested by FOX19 from Eaton to the president dated March 11th, Eaton states a conference commissioner was coming to campus last week for a compliance review. Officials with the Atlantic Sun Conference confirm the visit was completely unrelated to the investigation and no compliance issues were found.

A spokesperson for NKU says they expect to have an update on their internal investigation being conducted by an outside law firm within the next week or so.
