Church packs Kauffman Performing Arts Center for Easter service

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Resurrection Downtown has grown from nine members to 900, and the Kansas City church packed the Kauffman Performing Arts Center on Easter Sunday.

Rather than having the usual multiple services at their location near Truman Road and McGee Street, the church rented out the Kauffman center. Despite that, they still ran out of chairs and some had to stand outside the music hall to hear the service.

"It's a beautiful day," the Rev. Scott Chrostek said. "We're excited to spend it here in this beautiful building."

Musician Kaela Dickens said the center was an incredible place to perform and that the acoustics were amazing.

"It's unique," Dickens said. "You feel like you're singing right up to heaven."

The church aims to serve those who before had to drive to the suburbs to worship, including those who live downtown.

"It's absolutely glorious, God bringing all of us together to enlighten the community," Terri Chamberlain said. "We use to have one service, now we have four. We use to see each other every Sunday. Now with four services we don't always get to see everybody. This allows all of us to be together on Easter Sunday."
