Victim named in fatal hit-and-run in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

There are new details in Saturday's hit-and-run accident that killed a 55-year-old Westfield woman.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reports that Hungry Hill native Jeanne Lareau McLain is the woman who died in the crash.

And the man Springfield police say is responsible for the crash is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.

Police said 25-year-old Mark Perez stole an SUV shortly before the fatal crash, which happened at the intersection of Chestnut and Carew streets.

Police said they tracked the damaged SUV to Perez's residence and arrested him after he attempted to flee the home with a large amount of marijuana.

Authorities said a subsequent search of the home turned up more marijuana, cocaine and cash.

Perez faces charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Two other people who live in the home also face drugs charges.
