KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Friends of Mike and Cynthia McLelland say the couple was kind and will be greatly missed.

The president of the Kaufman County Lion's Club says Mike McLelland was an active member in the group. He says McLelland was a great district attorney and a great person.

Mike McLelland's wife, Cynthia McLelland, was a part of the Kaufman Quilt Guild.

Members of the group remember Cynthia as a caring woman and mother.

Neighbors say the McLelland's have five children, two daughters and three sons. They told me one of the sons is a police officer in Dallas.

None of the family friends wanted to go on camera Sunday night but members of the Quilt Guild released a statement.

"Cynthia was a true leader in our guild with a winning smile and a big heart for sharing with everyone that she knew. She was a gifted woman that had a true passion for her art and we will miss her dearly and feel her absence always."

Officials say they cannot state whether or not the murder of Mike and Cynthia McLelland is linked to the murder of Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse.

However, just two months ago, McLelland promised to find whoever killed Hasse. KLTV was there as he spoke passionately about bringing Hasse's killer to justice.

"We're going to find you. We're going to pull you out of whatever hole you're in and we're going to bring you back and let the people of Kaufman County prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law," said McLelland back in January.

No arrests have been made in Hasse's killing.

The Mayor of Forney says he doesn't think the McLelland's deaths are a coincidence. He says the community needs to watch out for one another.

"We need to solve this, but we also don't need to walk around in fear. We need to be calm, we need to be supportive of the investigation that is taking place, and that's the most assured chance we have of catching these guys," says Mayor Darren Rozell of Forney.

Officials say security will be increased tomorrow at the Kaufman County courthouse. They did not give any details about how or if other prosecutors in McLelland's office will be protected.
