LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

West Las Vegas restaurant The Egg & I, which is usually bustling with breakfast-seeking customers, was boarded up and closed a day after a hit-and-run driver plowed into the business, injuring 10 people.

The incident happened at the height of the lunch hour on Monday in the 4500 block of West Sahara Avenue.

Las Vegas Metro police released the name of 18-year-old Gage Lindsey as the driver in the incident.

He faces charges of driving under the influence above the legal limit, reckless driving and attempting to leave the scene of an accident.

Lindsey's initial court hearing was listed for Wednesday, according to court records. He was being held at Clark County Detention Center on $20,000 bail.

Police said the driver was traveling west on Sahara, jumped the median, hit two cars and plowed into the restaurant. Of the 10 people injured, four received the brunt of the impact, three adults and a child. Some victims became trapped under the man's car.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue (LVFR) listed the injuries in the incident as serious but non-life-threatening. Those patients were transported to Sunrise Hospital and University Medical Center.

"All of a sudden, I saw my busser flying through the bussing station towards me and the biggest thing that came to mind was, ‘How are my customers? How are my employees?' After that point, we just heard a lot of screaming and [we got] everyone out of the structure so nothing fell on them," Egg & I General Manager Sarah Gehringer said.

Police also reported the driver appeared to have tried leaving the scene but was detained by witnesses.

"I think he was high because they sat in the car for a while, and when he got out of the car, he started screaming, ‘I blacked out,' and he took off running. But the men that were here, these men took off after him and they put him on the ground," witness Suziliene McDonald said.

East and westbound lanes of Sahara from Decatur Boulevard to Arville were closed until about 6 p.m. to complete the cleanup and an investigation.

Stay tuned to FOX5 for the latest on this developing story.
