HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The voting ended in the social media symposium contest, and Huntsville won with more than 13,000 votes.

Thanks to you, Huntsville won the opportunity to host the 2013 Social Medial Tourism Symposium.

First it was Indianapolis, then we took down Cleveland, and then we went head to head with Missoula in the final round of the competition.

Social media played a huge part in this contest. It also gave Huntsville a lot of exposure.

"We've gotten a lot of great exposure both locally and throughout the region and even nationally.  So hopefully a lot more people understand what we as a convention and visitors bureau do and what hospitality, what this conference would mean or other conferences mean to our community," said Charles Winters with the Huntsville Madison County Visitors Bureau.

The event is expected to generate thousands of dollars for the Rocket City.

To thank the community, the convention and visitors bureau will host an open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

They will have giveaways every half hour.
