Traffic delays after concrete comes loose on I-91

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Traffic on Interstate 91 northbound was backed up for miles after a piece of concrete holding up an elevated section of Interstate 91 in Springfield came loose Wednesday evening.

The fallen concrete also caused a section of highway pavement to buckle just north of the Interstate 291 off-ramp just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

State police cruisers had the right and center northbound lanes closed as crews from the state Department of Transportation worked to secure the concrete and roadway. The highway was reopened to all traffic just after 6 p.m.

No injuries or crashes were reported.
