TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A man suffering from gunshot wounds drove himself to a Tempe convenience store for help and police were looking for the shooter early Thursday morning.

Police received several calls of gunshots near a church at McClintock Road and Southern Avenue about 12:30 a.m., and shortly after arriving they got another call about a wounded man at a nearby AM/PM store, according to Police Commander Noah Johnson.

Johnson said the victim and another person with him were uncooperative, though police found evidence of a shooting in the parking lot of a First Baptist Church.

The victim was able to drive himself to the convenience store, and was taken by ambulance to Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn Hospital with serious wounds, but was expected to survive, Johnson said.

Johnson said no one was in custody and that the investigation was continuing.

No other information was immediately available.
