CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A Hamilton County judge sentenced a father for the murder of his toddler son.

Antrone Smith will spend 15 years to life in prison for killing Damarcus Jackson, 2.

Smith was spared the death penalty after being acquitted of aggravated murder during a jury trial in March. He was convicted of murder and felonious assault.

Jackson was in foster care, but returned to his biological parents just two months before he died in 2011.

Jackson had numerous injuries to his left jaw, left eye, legs, arms and midsection. There were also lacerations above his penis, on the back of his neck, above his left ear and on his left buttocks. He also had an untreated burn on his right hand.

The coroner ruled that Jackson died of blunt force trauma to his abdomen. He had severe internal bleeding and his injuries were consistent with being stomped on.
