COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Local fire departments were given more than $44,800 worth of life-saving tools.

On Wednesday, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awarded much-needed equipment to the Colerain Township, Union Township and Springdale Fire Departments.

Colerain Township was the recipient of a fire extinguisher training simulator, worth more than $7,800. The system allows firefighters to teach the community on the proper use of fire extinguishers through demonstration.

Springdale Fire Department was given ten sets of bunker pants and coats, two CPR manikins and four automatic external defibrillator (AED) trainers. Together, the donations are worth more than $22,000, providing fire crews with a safe uniform as well as tools to instruct the community on CPR and AED use.

The foundation also donated 204 carbon monoxide detectors and 416 smoke detectors to the Union Township Fire Department, worth more than $15,000. The donation with help maintain the department's program that provides citizens with free detectors.

Firehouse Subs started the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in 2005 to provide first responders and public safety personnel with funding, equipment and more.
