Auburn Tigers back to spring drills with 2-hour workout

After three days away from the practice field, Coach Gus Malzahn's Auburn Tigers began their third week of spring drills with a two-hour full-contact workout Wednesday morning at the Auburn Athletics Complex practice fields. This was Auburn's eighth session of the spring, and Malzahn felt his squad was "sluggish" in its approach to practice in the warm weather.

"This is probably the first time I wasn't pleased overall with the attitude and effort," Malzahn said afterward. "I told the guys afterward we've got to do better. From a coaches' standpoint, we are going to get that corrected and our players understand that.

"We ought to see improvement the second part of spring as far as execution, now that we've settled in on a few positions. Every day, they're getting in a routine and getting more comfortable. At the midway point, that's when you find out about leadership and mental toughness. We'll find out how we respond the next practice."

Auburn returns to the practice field Friday morning. The Tigers are working toward A-Day on Saturday, April 20, scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
