TROY, Ala. – The Troy football team completed a 75-minute scrimmage on Saturday with both the offense and defense providing some highlights.
Troy has just two practices remaining before next Saturday's T-Day Spring Game.
In a scrimmage that featured 15-20 possessions, the offense got on the board a few times, with none more flashy than an early hook-up between two familiar Trojans.
On the seventh possession of the day, Corey Robinson connected with Eric Thomas for a 96-yard touchdown, with the senior quarterback hitting the senior wide receiver in stride down the middle of the field.
However, the defense was not outdone. Just two possessions later Josh Burnham made an interception that marked one of a few turnovers forced by the Trojans. The interception sparked a defense that played with good energy in the second half of the scrimmage.
"It looked to me like the defense made another move in the right direction today," Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said. "We got lined up better, played faster to the ball and had more people around the ball to tackle. We'll see how they handle prosperity in these next two practices then on Saturday for T-Day.
"Offensively, the biggest thing was turnovers. Our senior quarterbacks (Robinson and Deon Anthony) are great players and they have to take it upon themselves not to let that happen."
The Trojans will practice on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with Saturday's T-Day Spring Game set for 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Season tickets for Troy's five home games in 2013 are currently on sale by visiting the Troy ticket office in person at Tine Davis Fieldhouse, online at TroyTrojans.com or by calling 1-877-878-WINS.
