ANAHEIM, CA (WIS) - Former University of South Carolina star Michael Roth earned his first win as a major-league ballplayer Saturday.

Roth was called up to Anaheim Saturday from double-A Arkansas.

Saturday, the right-hander threw two shutout innings in relief with four strikeouts to earn the win as the Angels beat Houston 5-4.

"It's a good feeling to see a youngster take the ball for the first time and get out there," manager Mike Scioscia told the Angels.com "His makeup is off the charts. He got out there, competed and earned his first win."

Roth's call-up was so quick, the Angels haven't had time to post his photo on their web site.

In his only appearance with Arkansas, Roth pitched five shutout innings Tuesday.
