PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

The first-degree murder trial of Jodi Arias resumed Monday morning with her attorneys wanting to present new evidence to the jury in her murder trial.

Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott made the request before Judge Sherry Stephens, but the jury wasn't scheduled to be in the courtroom until the afternoon.

The evidence consists of enhanced images of Travis Alexander just before he was stabbed and shot to death.

Arias took several photographs of Alexander before he was killed in 2008. A defense expert claims that he can see a reflection of a person in the eye of Alexander in one digitally enhanced image. Defense lawyer Kirk Nurmi says the image shows Arias with both hands on the camera - and not holding a knife that she used to kill Alexander.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez denounced the interpretation as "fantastical" and "voodoo."

The judge said she would rule later on whether to allow the images.

A producer from the CNN family of networks was called to the stand when proceedings began at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Alyce LaViolette, a psychotherapist and domestic violence expert who said Arias was a victim of domestic violence, is expected to be back on the stand Tuesday.

The prosecution maintains Arias killed her ex-lover, Travis Alexander, in a jealous rage in June 2008. His body was found stabbed 27 times, his throat slit and a gunshot wound to the head.

Arias claims she killed Alexander in self-defense.
