(FOX19) -

Indiana Senator Dan Coats, along with two other U.S. Senators, plan to introduce alternative gun legislation.

Coats will join Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and other senators in a press conference to introduce a substitute amendment to gun legislation currently being considered in the U.S. Senate. T

he proposal preserves the Second Amendment while fixing the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, provides resources to help address mental health and school safety, protects veterans from false health determinations and addresses gun trafficking and straw purchasing.

The Senators plan to announce the legislation on Wednesday.
