Jury deadlocked, judge declares mistrial in first Critterman capital murder trial

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery County judge has declared a mistrial in the first murder trial related to the January 2011 stabbing death of Ralph "Critter Man" McNeil after the jury said it could not reach a decision.

Officials say the judge declared a mistrial due to a hung jury for three capital murder charges against Kindall Riley who was 19-years-old at his time of arrest.

McNeil was found stabbed to death on the ground 35 feet from his Toyota Tacoma that had been set on fire around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday January 18, 2011 on Pilgrim Street.

Kindall Riley and his cousin Jeremy Riley were accused of carrying out a murder-for-hire against McNeil. Each was charged with three counts of capital murder related to the arson and robbery also connected to McNeil's death.

Also arrested in connection with McNeil's death were former physician David Nash, the mother of one of McNeil's children, Serenna English. Nash and English were believed to be engaged at the time, and English was in the middle of a custody battle with McNeil at the time of his murder.

Kindall Riley is also considered a suspect in the November 2010 stabbing death of Antonio Glanton at Club Envy on the East South Boulevard.

Riley will be remain in jail until the case can be re-tried.
