Deputy arrested for bringing contraband into jail

ST. MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

A St. Mary Parish deputy is accused of trying to smuggle items into jail.

According to reports, Derek Martin was involved in bringing contraband into the jail in Centerville.

Investigators say they intercepted a package that was to be delivered to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, which led them to Martin.

Martin has been charged with malfeasance in office, principle to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, principle to possession of a legend drug with intent to distribute and entering contraband into a penal institution.
