Authorities say a Peoria man is in custody in connection with two bank robberies in the city since January.

Peoria police announced Thursday that 51-year-old Jose Salvador Moreno is being held on suspicion of armed robbery.

They say a Chase Bank branch was robbed Jan. 7 and again on March 9.

Authorities say a man claiming to have a gun demanded money from a teller in the January robbery. The robber stuffed cash into his jacket before leaving.

In the second robbery, authorities say a man approached a teller with a bag and demanded it be filled with money before fleeing.

Police say they acted on a tip and interviewed Moreno about the robberies Wednesday. Detectives searched his home and say they found evidence allegedly linking him to both cases.
