Richard Petty once told me that bad luck comes in cycles. He said that you just continue to work hard and one day it will turn back around your way. That seems to be the case for the resurgent Kyle Busch as he heads to Kansas this weekend.

Busch burst on to the NASCAR scene winning races in all NASCAR national divisions and reached 100 victories at a record pace. However, he was virtually nonexistent last season as misfortune kept him out of the Chase and out of the limelight.

"We've still got some work to do to get better at some of the tracks that we did struggle at last year, and we know that," said the young Gibbs Racing driver as he prepared for this week's race.

With a series of top-five finishes over the last five races, Busch seems to have shaken off that bad luck bug and also found the way back to Victory Lane.

"I'm glad the monkey is off our back," said Busch after his victory in Texas. "We're riding a wave right now that's 30 feet tall, and ready to keep riding."

However, he has to face one of his worst tracks on the circuit in Kansas this weekend. He is without a victory in 11 starts in Kansas. To add insult to injury, he hasn't finished inside the top five either.

"That's going to be a battle for us, just making sure we've got a good handling car and one that I can drive and push hard and make speed," said Busch on his Kansas troubles.

If Busch's luck continues to ride on the positive side, this could be the week that he shakes those Kansas blues.

If he had two wins last season as he does so early in 2013, Busch would have easily made the Chase but he still isn't taking anything for granted.

Petty went on to tell me that once that good luck turns back your way that you have to ride it as long as you can before it backs off again. I'm sure that Busch will be looking to just that a lot longer.
