Prescott National Forest names acting supervisor

PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -

A man with more than 20 years of experience with the U.S. Forest Service is taking over as acting supervisor of the Prescott National Forest.

Tom Torres started in the role earlier this week.

Torres graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He most recently worked as an engineer for the Forest Service's Pacific Northwest Region.

Torres has spent half of his career with the Forest Service in Arizona and New Mexico. He is a 2011 graduate of the agency's senior leader program.

Torres succeeds Betty Mathews, who moved on as supervisor of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Gainesville, Ga.
