ALMA, MI (AP) -

Authorities have lifted an evacuation order and state of emergency as the Pine River recedes in the Mid-Michigan community of Alma.

City clerk Barb Gager tells Mlive.com that a combination of lower water levels and a change in the weather forecast prompted the change Friday. But she's urging residents to use caution as they return to their homes.

The Pine River had been more than 2 feet above flood stage and peaked Thursday afternoon. The Pine feeds the Tittabawassee River, which has been flooding parts of Saginaw and Midland counties.

Many of Mid-Michigan's overflowing rivers were getting more water as a wave of severe thunderstorms swept through the state Thursday. It forced evacuations and knocked out power to thousands.
