DELAWARE COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

The Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a commercial vehicle that killed an ODOT worker on Monday,

The crash occurred on northbound Interstate 71, near mile post 124, in Delaware County.

According to a release, the ODOT worker was clearing debris with a backhoe on the right berm when a tractor trailer drove off the right side of the roadway, striking the backhoe.

The semi flipped over and became engulfed in flames.

The worker, Lee Rizor, 27, of Mt. Gilead, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say had been a highway technician for ODOT for five years.

The driver of the  semi, Dwayne Allen Hill Sr., 59, of Ashland, Va., has been transported to the OSU Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.

"Our hearts are heavy at ODOT today as we lost an employee in a very tragic accident. Lee M. Rizor was a dedicated highway worker with more than five years of service to the department. He left home this morning with the expectation that he would return to his family at the end of the work day unharmed. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rizor family during this very difficult time," said ODOT Director Jerry Wray.

This crash remains under investigation.
