(FOX19) -

Runners across America are making sure the sound of sneakers hitting the pavement is louder than the bombs in Boston.

Running stores across the country are hosting 'Runners for Boston' events to bring runners together to show support for those affected in Boston on April 15th.

"Most runners are going to be defiant and determined to take back the streets," said Jane Mays who ran in this years' Boston Marathon.

Monday's Boston Marathon was the second for Mays and her 15th marathon overall.

She was only a half mile away from finish line before the bombs went off.

"My thoughts are with the victims and unfortunately for them it will be a struggle for them to run ever again some of them will have to relearn to walk," said Mays. "I'm grateful I wasn't a part of all that happened on Boylston Street."

Monday, thousands of runners will run 1/10 of the distance of a marathon, 2.62 miles. Bob Roncker's Running Spot is hosting four runs.

"The first explosion happened right in front of Marathon Sport which is a specialty running store," said Joe Fung, Manager at the O' Bryonville Running Spot location. "Basically all of the specialty running stores have gotten together and wanted to do this combined effort to show support."

Also on Monday, the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association will donate $1 for every picture posted to their Facebook page or on Twitter of someone wearing blue and yellow to 'The One Fund'.
