TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -
Tempe police said they have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the death of a young woman found in an apartment late Tuesday morning.
Luis Soltero, who initially told police he was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning after he went to Tempe police to report the death of his girlfriend, was arrested and booked into jail Tuesday night on a count of first-degree premeditated murder.
He went to the police department's Apache Substation about 11:30 a.m. and told police they would find the woman's body at 919 E. Lemon St., according to Mike Pooley of the Tempe Police Department.
He was taken to a hospital and police went to the apartment near Apache Boulevard and Rural Road, where the Tempe Fire Hazmat unit cleared it of any potential carbon monoxide danger, Pooley said.
Police had to force their way into the apartment, where they found the body of the 19-year-old Arizona State University student, a Tempe police spokeswoman said.
The woman's identity was being withheld until confirmation by the medical examiner and notification of kin.
ASU officials said they did not issue an alert since there was no threat to the ASU community.
