Threats persist at Pearl-Cohn HS, prompt brief lockdown

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Pearl-Cohn High School was briefly put on lockdown Thursday morning after a series of unfounded threats, according to police.

The lockdown was lifted by 11 a.m., but a Metro police helicopter was still hovering over the school later.

The school system said the lockdown ended after about 15 to 20 minutes.

Police said there are rumors that a former student, Eric Goodner, who is wanted in the death of a classmate, will come back to the school and commit more violence.

"Somebody said it was on Facebook," said student Devonteze Wood.

"The concern was that the young brother had put threats out that he had a little hit list of people that he wanted," said parent Wallace Nabaa.

The lockdown came a day after school officials said they will have increased security due to the threats.

"Everybody's paranoid. You never know what's going to happen," said student Koreyon Jordan.

Administrators said they first heard about the rumors on Wednesday, investigated and found them to be unsubstantiated.

Still, the school sent out an automated phone call to parents on Wednesday to let them know about the situation, and they plan to increase security with school guards and Metro police as a precaution.

Some parents, like Nabaa, showed up Thursday to take their children home early.

"They wouldn't let us come get them earlier, because they were on lockdown, but we can come get them now. My concern is for my child - to get her out of the way," Nabaa said.
