More search warrants executed in Steubenville rape case

COLUMBUS, OH (WOIO) -

Search warrants were executed Thursday in the Ohio Attorney General's ongoing investigation in connection with the Steubenville rape case.

The investigation saw its first major move Thursday when Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine put in motion, search warrants to be executed at the following locations:

  • Steubenville Board of Education offices and other facilities
  • Steubenville High School
  • Vestige Ltd. in Medina County

19 Action News went to Vestige Digital Investigations but it was locked up.

Our research shows vestige is an electronic evidence recovery company  - heavy into computer forensics and data recover.

All indications are that the Steubenville School District may have hired this company. A company like Vestige could scour district computers. Find emails, even deleted ones, to discover who knew what, and when. If that's the case the attorney general want to know what was found.

By phone Dewine told 19 Action News his purpose in all of this is to make sure no other laws have been broken. For example obstruction of justice which would include anyone who deleted or erased files or emails.

Also, anyone who knew of a felony committed, which includes rape, and didn't report it, can be charged with a crime.

The court signed orders sealing documents associated with these search warrants.

The grand jury is scheduled to begin hearing evidence on April 30.

On March 17, a judge found Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond guilty of raping a teenaged girl, who was drunk, during a series of parties last August.
