FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Authorities in Franklin Township were on a cat hunt on Friday morning after a homeowner reported seeing a lion.

Welden Workman called 911 to report that he had seen a lion in his backyard on Marcella Avenue. He said the lion was cleaning itself.

He tells FOX19 that at first he thought it was a deer, but it had a big cat head. He went inside to call 911, and when he came back out, the animal was gone.

The call prompted authorities to search the area for a lion, but nothing was found.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, there are no native species in the area that match the description given.

While unlikely, a DNR spokesperson said there is always a possibility an exotic pet escaped in the area. Exotic pets are now regulated by Department of Agriculture, as of June of 2012.

Workman says he's not scared, but he will be more conscious of his surroundings while outside.
