East Texas man killed in Friday afternoon wreck

From the Palestine Police Department:

PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) - On Friday at approximately 3:30pm officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to a traffic accident at Loop 256 and Martin Luther King Blvd (MLK). Officers arrived on the scene and found that three vehicles had been involved in an accident that claimed that life of a Palestine man.

During the initial stages of the investigation, police were able to determine that a 2007 Kenworth truck, with trailer, was traveling south bound on Loop 256. The truck approached the intersection of Martin Luther King when a green Ford Windstar van pulled into the path of the truck. The Ford Windstar van appeared to be traveling west bound on MLK. The truck was unable to stop before making contact with the passenger side of the van. The impact pushed the van over onto Martin Luther King Blvd where it contacted a Ford passenger car.

The driver of the Ford car and the driver of the van were transported to the Palestine Regional Medical Center for treatment. According to a source from the local EMS, the driver of the Ford Windstar van was later transported to a Tyler hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the Ford car was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The male passenger in the Ford Windstar van was pronounced as deceased at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Carl Davis. The name of the man will not be released until family has been notified.

The driver of the Kenworth truck was not injured. The name of the truck driver will not be released at this time. Police are still trying to determine what charges, if any, the man could face.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. The initial report from officers on the scene has indicated that there may have been witnesses to the accident.

Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Investigator Alan Douglas from the District Attorney's Office are assisting with the investigation.

Additional information will be released when it comes available.
