PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix firefighters had their hands full with an intense fire at a paper recycling plant about noon Tuesday.

The fire broke out at Arizona Pacific Pulp and Paper at 2101 W. Grand Ave. about 11:45 a.m. and additional fire crews were called in when it was upgraded to a second-alarm fire.

Firefighters had the fire contained in less than an hour.

Trucks battled the blaze among the stacks of newspaper, cardboard and other recycling materials from three directions.

Several tanks stood above the flames, but Tony Mure of the Phoenix Fire Department said there was no threat.

No cause had been determined, and there were no reports of injuries.

The intersection at McDowell Road and Grand Avenue is closed, Mure said.

No other information was immediately available.
