PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A woman was killed after she lost control of her car and slammed into a light pole on the frontage road near the Union Hills exit off northbound Interstate 17 on Wednesday morning.

The driver was the only person in the car, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the Union Hills exit and the Bell Road on-ramp to I-17 just south of there after the crash about 6:20 a.m.

Crews had to extricate the woman's body from the mangled wreckage.

Traffic was severely slowed because of the crash and was expected to be affected through the morning rush hour.

No other information was immediately available.
