HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Televisions and smartphone apps alert us when meteorologists call for stormy weather, but those are luxuries homeless people don't have.

WAFF 48 is trying to change that by presenting Rusty Loiselle with "Help our Homeless Veterans and Citizens" with six portable weather radios. The radios will be placed in homeless camps around Huntsville. Loiselle said until now the homeless had no way of knowing when severe weather was approaching.

"I've been trying to do it with my cell phone. Some of them have cell phones. I say hey, severe weather is coming, but with these radios I can put them in the hands of key people in the camps and they can let other people in the camps know that severe weather is coming," said Loiselle.
