Governor Robert Bentley announced on Friday that State Finance Director Dr. Marquita Davis will soon accept a new position as Executive Director of the Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity (JCCEO) in Birmingham.

Dr. Davis will resign as State Finance Director following the close of the 2013 Legislative Session.  She will assume her new position with the JCCEO in June.

"Dr. Davis has done an outstanding job.  Leading our Finance Department, she has helped us manage one of the most challenging economic times in our state's history," Governor Bentley said.  "I greatly appreciate her service to the State of Alabama and to our Administration.  I am really going to miss her and the contributions she has made.  Her work has benefitted everyone in this state.  I know that she will serve the JCCEO well in her new role."

The JCCEO Board of Directors voted on Thursday evening to offer the Executive Director's position to Dr. Davis.

"It has been an absolute honor and privilege to work with Governor Bentley and to serve the State of Alabama," Dr. Davis said.  "I am looking forward to this opportunity to continue to serve the people of Alabama in a new capacity."

Before serving as State Finance Director, Dr. Davis was Governor Bentley's Commissioner of the Department of Children's Affairs.  She has also served as Director of the Office of School Readiness and First Class – Alabama's voluntary pre-kindergarten program.  Dr. Davis was Deputy Director of Child Development Services at the JCCEO from 2004 to 2008.
