Non-profit campaign helps foster care shortage

(FOX19) -

One year ago a campaign was launched to raise awareness of the foster care shortage in Hamilton County.

Lighthouse Youth Services began the 'Be the Somebody' campaign in 2012 to help combat the foster parent shortage in the Tri-State.

Since the campaign began, Lighthouse Youth Services has licensed 86 new foster families.

"The goal is to either adopt them or to reconcile them with their families, and if we're trying to find adoptive families in Hamilton County, it is so much better to have the child in placement in Hamilton County," explained Bob Mecum, President of Lighthouse Youth Services.

The organization plans to continue recruitment efforts, and will focus on keeping siblings together and finding homes for older children.
