SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Spartanburg police said they arrested an ex-girlfriend who was chasing a man with a screwdriver after she hit him with her car Tuesday morning.
Police said someone called 911 after they saw a woman try to hit a man with her car along Highland Avenue and Henry Street just before 7 a.m.
When officers arrived, they said they saw 39-year-old Eingar Hughes chasing the victim with a screwdriver, trying to stab him.
While chasing the man, police said Hughes yelled out "I'm going to kill him." During the chase, the man called out for help and Hughes refused officers orders to drop the tool until they pulled out their weapons, police said.
Once Hughes dropped the screwdriver, police said they were able to take her into custody.
The man told police that Hughes and another woman hit him with crutches. Police said they found the crutch at the scene, which had been broken into several pieces.
Police said they found Hughes' car nearby with blood on the hood and flat tire. They said they also found a stop sign that had been run over and pulled up from the ground nearby.
The man was taken to the hospital with injuries from the car and a cut to his hand, police said.
Police said they were seeking a warrant for attempted murder.
If anyone has information about the case they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
