Deese dismissed as Auburn's softball coach

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Tina Deese, who has led the Auburn softball program for the last 17 seasons, has been dismissed as head coach, Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs announced Wednesday.

"I deeply appreciate Tina's many contributions to our program," Jacobs said. "She started it from the ground up, and I will always appreciate her role in establishing a foundation for Auburn softball. I made this decision because I felt it was time to move in another direction."

Deese, who is the only head coach in the program's history, was hired in 1995, and led Auburn to a 562-458-1 overall mark and a 212-272 record in Southeastern Conference play.

Auburn made nine NCAA Regional appearances under Deese.

"I'm very fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach the Auburn softball program the last 17 seasons," Deese said.

"I'm disappointed that I will not be there to lead the team moving forward, but would like to thank the players, coaches and support staff that have been part of the program since I arrived in 1995. I'm also very appreciative of the Auburn family, community and university during my tenure, and wish the program nothing but the best."
