TALLASSEE, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities believed the number of victims in the Tallassee child sexual abuse story could climb into the double-digits, but Wednesday they confirmed that the number will stay at 8.

Earlier in the week a parent expressed concerned to police that her two children may have been allegedly sexually abused by suspect Steven Conrad.

Police Chief Jimmy Rodgers says Child Protect in Montgomery interviewed both the 7 and 9 year olds and found no evidence any abuse had taken place.

Meanwhile, Conrad remains in the Tallassee City Jail facing more than 80 counts of sexual abuse, rape and sodomy allegedly involving 8 other children ranging from a 3-month old to a 12-year-old.

Conrad is expected to make his first court appearance later this week in Elmore County.
