Teacher accused of taking students tests for money

(WMC-TV) - A former Memphis City Schools teacher is accused of taking tests for her students -- and getting paid to do it.

Former Raleigh Egypt High School math teacher Veronica Kimmons is at the center of serious allegations.

Students and parents say three seniors paid Kimmons to take tests for them in their online classes.

"They said she was doing people's online classes," said junior Mallory Smith. "And they was paying her to do it."

"You had to pay her $150 for the online school testing," said parent Andrea Jennings.

The seniors who are believed to have paid Kimmons have been barred from graduation.

The school district declined to comment on the students' status because the case is still being investigated.

But Kimmons was originally placed on paid leave before she resigned effective May 1.

The Memphis Police Department says it is also investigating whether Kimmons broke any laws, namely criminal impersonation.

Students say they are disappointed.

"She shoulda never did that. I thought she was smarter than that. She was a good teacher," said students Darlene Bethel and Mallory Smith.
