CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Power has been restored at the University of Cincinnati.

The main power went out just after 8 a.m., but several back up generators kicked in.

According to UC Police, people who were trapped in elevators were extricated.

UC President Dr. Santa Ono said on Twitter that the power outage is in the Uptown area, and appears to be a problem outside the UC system, upstream of power feed to the school's substation.

University of Cincinnati Medical Center officials released the following statement:

At approximately 8:15 this morning duke energy experienced a power outage that affected the uptown area. Although it affected non primary systems at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center at no time were patients at risk. Surgeries we're finished utilizing seamless critical backup systems and the hospital continues to operate on backup power.

Children's Hospital was not affected by the power outage.
