TALLASSEE, AL (WSFA) -

The Wetumpka man who disappeared in the Tallapoosa River Thursday has been found.

27 year-old John William Picken was recovered by a water rescue team Saturday morning around 9 AM. WSFA News Reporter Hannah Lane reports authorities were hopeful for a different outcome, but are grateful they could provide closure on the case.

John Picken, his brother and two friends were fishing on rocks in the Alabama River last Thursday evening when water began to rise, which is typical because Alabama Power releases water through a dam into the river. Picken was the only person not able to make it safe to shore.

He did not have a floatation device.

Chief Jimmy Rodgers says this is the first drowning in the Tallapoosa River in about 4 years.
